Overview
A'DAM Lookout is a modern observation tower on the north bank of the IJ river, directly across from Amsterdam Centraal Station. From the 20th-floor observation deck, you get 360-degree views of the city, the harbor, and the surrounding countryside. The building also houses a panoramic restaurant, an interactive exhibition about Amsterdam, and the famous "Over the Edge" swing on the rooftop.
The venue was built with accessibility in mind. Elevators serve all public floors, the entrance has a ramp, and accessible toilets are available. The observation deck, restaurant, and exhibition are all wheelchair accessible.
Getting There
- Free ferry: Take the free GVB ferry from Amsterdam Centraal Station (behind the station) to Buiksloterweg. The ferry crossing takes 5 minutes and runs 24 hours. All ferries are wheelchair accessible with flat roll-on boarding. A'DAM Lookout is a 2-minute roll from the ferry landing.
- Metro: Take any metro line to Amsterdam Centraal, then follow signs to the ferry terminal at the back of the station.
- Bus: Bus 38 serves Amsterdam Noord with stops near A'DAM Lookout.
The free ferry from Centraal Station is the easiest and most enjoyable way to reach A'DAM Lookout. Ferries depart every few minutes during the day. Roll straight onto the ferry from the dock with no ramps or steps.
Wheelchair Accessibility
- A ramp at the IJ-side entrance (facing the EYE Film Museum) provides step-free entry to the ground floor.
- An elevator goes from the ground floor to the 20th floor. The experience elevator includes light and sound effects during the ride.
- Staff can assist wheelchair users moving between the ground floor and first floor, and between the 20th and 21st floors.
- The observation deck on the 20th floor is fully accessible with wide pathways and panoramic windows at a height visible from a seated position.
- The panoramic restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
- The "Over the Edge" swing on the rooftop is not accessible for visitors who cannot transfer out of their wheelchair independently.
If you have epilepsy, inform staff at the box office. The experience elevator has flashing lights. An alternative elevator without light effects is available upon request.
Accessible Toilets
Accessible toilet facilities are located on the ground floor and the 20th floor. Both have grab bars and sufficient space for wheelchair users.
Tips for Visitors with Disabilities
- Book tickets online at adamlookout.com for a small discount. Card payment only at the venue.
- Visit on a clear day for the best views. The observation deck is indoors behind glass, so weather does not affect comfort, but visibility matters.
- Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the venue.
- The nearby EYE Film Museum (visible from the ferry landing) is also fully wheelchair accessible and free to enter the building and cafe.
- Allow about 1 hour for the full experience, including the exhibition and observation deck.
