Overview
The Heineken Experience is a self-guided tour through the original Heineken brewery, which operated from 1867 to 1988. The 1.5-hour tour covers Heineken's history, the brewing process, and interactive exhibits, ending with two complimentary beers (or non-alcoholic alternatives) on the rooftop bar.
The building is a historic monument, which means accessibility has limitations. Lifts and ramps provide access to most floors, but the Brew Room has a lower level that is only reachable by stairs. Wheelchairs are available to borrow during your visit. Contact the venue in advance so staff can prepare for your arrival.
Note: The Heineken Experience is in a historic building undergoing ongoing renovations to improve accessibility. Some areas may have limited wheelchair access. Contact [email protected] before visiting to confirm current conditions and arrange support.
Getting There
- Metro: Vijzelgracht station (Line 52) is a 5-minute roll on flat pavement. The station has elevator access.
- Tram: Tram 7 or 24 to Marie Heinekenplein, directly behind the brewery. Both stops are wheelchair accessible.
- Accessible parking: Two disabled parking spaces are near the venue, one at Stadhouderskade 564 and one at Quelijnstraat 112.
- Drop-off: A drop-off zone is located at the front entrance on Stadhouderskade 78.
Wheelchair Accessibility
- Accessible lifts and ramps connect most floors of the Heineken Experience. Lift dimensions are 1000 mm x 669 mm or larger.
- Wheelchairs are available to borrow during your visit. Request one from staff upon arrival.
- The Brew Room has two levels. The lower level is accessible only by stairs and cannot be reached in a wheelchair.
- The rooftop bar has limited seating but is accessible by elevator.
- When buying tickets online, check the accessibility box to inform staff about your wheelchair so they can make preparations.
Visit during quieter hours (Sunday through Thursday, 10:30am to 2:00pm) for easier access to lifts and less crowding in the exhibition spaces. The venue gets busy on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Accessible Toilets
Accessible restrooms are available in the building. Ask staff for directions, as the historic layout can be confusing.
Tips for Visitors with Disabilities
- Contact [email protected] before visiting to let them know about your needs and confirm current accessibility.
- The tour is self-guided and takes about 1.5 hours. You move at your own pace, which helps if you need extra time at lifts or ramps.
- Two complimentary drinks are included with your ticket. Non-alcoholic options are available.
- The Heineken Experience recognizes the Sunflower Lanyard for hidden disabilities. Staff will offer extra support if you wear one.
- The nearby Albert Cuyp Market (5-minute roll) is worth combining with your visit, though market stalls and crowds can make wheelchair navigation tight.
