TCA Amsterdam
TCA (Taxi Centrale Amsterdam) is the city's main taxi network, operating 24 hours a day. TCA has some wheelchair-accessible vehicles in their fleet, but you need to request one specifically.
How to Book
- By phone: Call +31 20 777 7777. English-speaking operators are available. Request a wheelchair-accessible vehicle when booking.
- By app: Download the TCA Taxi app. Note that the app does not have a dedicated wheelchair vehicle option, so call dispatch directly for accessible vehicles.
- Online: Book at tcataxi.nl. Contact them in advance to confirm a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Important
TCA's standard fleet is mostly regular cars. If you need a ramp-equipped vehicle where you can remain in your wheelchair, call ahead rather than hailing a taxi at a rank. Accessible vehicles are limited and must be specifically assigned.
Dedicated Wheelchair Taxi Services
For guaranteed wheelchair-accessible transport, these companies specialize in wheelchair taxi service:
Staxi
Staxi operates across the Netherlands and provides wheelchair taxis with rear-entry ramps. Each vehicle accommodates one wheelchair user plus up to four seated passengers.

Uber in Amsterdam
Uber operates in Amsterdam. Standard Uber rides work if you use a folding wheelchair and can transfer to a car seat. The driver can store your folded wheelchair in the trunk.
Uber does not currently offer a reliable dedicated wheelchair-accessible vehicle option (Uber WAV) in Amsterdam. If you need to ride in your wheelchair, use one of the dedicated wheelchair taxi services listed above instead.
For extra trunk space, request Uber Van or Uber XL to ensure your mobility equipment fits.
Schiphol Airport Transfers
For wheelchair-accessible transfers between Schiphol Airport and your Amsterdam hotel:
- Pre-book a wheelchair taxi from Staxi or RolstoelTaxi Amsterdam. Fixed pricing and guaranteed vehicle availability.
- Call TCA at least 24 hours ahead to request an accessible vehicle for pickup at the airport taxi rank.
- Consider the train if you can manage with NS Travel Assistance. The Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal train takes 15 minutes and costs about 5 euros. See our Trains guide.
Booking Tip
Book your wheelchair taxi at least 24 hours in advance, especially for airport transfers and early morning pickups. The number of accessible vehicles is limited across all companies. For peak travel seasons (April through September), book as early as possible.
Private Accessible Van Hire
If you plan to take many trips during your stay or want to visit places outside Amsterdam (Zaanse Schans, Keukenhof, Haarlem), consider hiring an accessible van with a driver for a half-day or full day.
Several companies offer this service, including Staxi and local tour operators. Expect to pay 200 to 400 euros for a half-day and 400 to 700 euros for a full day, including driver and fuel.
Tips for Taxi Travel in Amsterdam
- Confirm the fare estimate before the driver starts the meter, especially for longer trips.
- All Amsterdam taxis accept credit cards and contactless payments.
- Tipping is not mandatory in the Netherlands. Rounding up to the nearest euro is common.
- Service dogs must be accepted in all taxis. No additional charge applies.
- If a driver refuses service without valid reason, note the taxi license plate and report it to the municipality.
Water Taxis
Amsterdam has water taxis that travel the canals. These are generally not wheelchair accessible due to steep boarding steps from the dock to the boat. If you want a canal experience, look into accessible canal cruise operators instead.
