Overview

The Palau de la Musica Catalana is a UNESCO World Heritage concert hall built between 1905 and 1908 by architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. It is one of the finest examples of Catalan Art Nouveau (Modernisme) architecture, with a stunning stained-glass skylight, ornate columns, and sculptural decorations. The Palau has made significant efforts to provide wheelchair access, including lifts on all floors, a step-free entrance, wheelchair seating at concerts with a 50% discount, and wheelchair loan on request.

Getting There

  • Metro: Urquinaona station (L1, L4) is about a 5-minute roll from the Palau. The station has elevator access to street level. Head south along Via Laietana, then turn onto Carrer de Sant Pere Mes Alt.
  • Bus: Routes 120, V15, and V17 stop nearby on Via Laietana.
  • Accessible entrance: The entrance on Carrer Palau de la Musica near Placa del Foyer is barrier-free with no steps, making it the best entry point for wheelchair users. The revolving door on Carrer Sant Pere Mes Alt also provides access to the Petit Palau lobby and lifts.

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • The Placa del Foyer entrance has no physical barriers and is the recommended entry for wheelchair users.
  • Elevators serve all floors of the building, accessible from the Petit Palau lobby.
  • A stairlift is available for wheelchair users to reach the balcony areas where the Foyer exhibitions are displayed.
  • The Lluis Millet Hall has a ramp to the column balcony.
  • For concerts in the modernist hall, wheelchair users receive a 50% discount on tickets, with the same discount extended to one companion. Designated wheelchair spaces are available in the Orchestra section and Mezzanine.
  • Wheelchair loan is available free of charge at Reception on request.
  • Guided tours (50 minutes) are accessible for wheelchair users. Contact the Palau in advance to confirm arrangements.

Contact the Palau at [email protected] or call 93 295 72 07 before your visit so they can arrange seating that best suits your needs. This is especially important for concert attendance.

Accessible Toilets

Two adapted toilets are available. One is located at Reception (key required from staff) and another in the Petit Palau area. Both have grab rails and adequate space for wheelchair transfers.

Tips for Visitors with Disabilities

  • Reserved parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are located on Carrer Ortigosa (numbers 3-5) and Carrer Sant Pere Mes Alt (numbers 6-8). A PMR card is required.
  • Discounted SABA car park tickets are available at the box office.
  • Service dogs are welcome throughout the building.
  • The Palau offers video call assistance for ticket purchases.
  • Guided tours run daily from 9:00am to 3:30pm in multiple languages, lasting about 50 minutes. Book in advance, especially during peak season.
  • The interior is one of the most photographed concert halls in Europe. The natural light through the stained-glass skylight is best around midday.
  • Weekday morning tours tend to be less crowded, providing more space for wheelchair navigation.
