Tips for Visiting Attractions with a Disability

  • Bring your disability ID or proof. Many Berlin museums offer free or reduced entry for disabled visitors plus a free companion ticket (Begleitperson). The German disability pass (Schwerbehindertenausweis) with a "B" marking entitles you to a free companion. International disability cards are widely accepted.
  • European Disability Card is accepted. The European Disability Card (EDC) is recognized at Berlin's state museums and most major attractions, giving you the same concessions as a German disability pass including free companion entry at participating venues.
  • Use step-free transport to get there. All U-Bahn stations on newer lines (U5, U55) are step-free. Most S-Bahn stations have lifts. All Berlin buses have ramps. Check the BVG website or app for real-time lift status before traveling. Trams have low-floor boarding at most stops.
  • Book accessibility requirements in advance. For popular sites like the Reichstag dome and Charlottenburg Palace, book online and note your accessibility needs. This guarantees wheelchair access, priority entry, and staff assistance on arrival. Note that the TV Tower (Fernsehturm) is not accessible for wheelchair users due to fire safety evacuation constraints.
