Overview
Miniaturk is Turkey's largest open-air miniature park, located on the waterfront of the Golden Horn in the Sutluce neighborhood. Opened in 2003 and spanning 60,000 square meters, the park features over 135 meticulously crafted 1:25 scale models of famous Turkish and Ottoman landmarks, from the Hagia Sophia to the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia. The entire park is flat, with wide paved pathways designed for easy access. This is one of the most wheelchair-friendly attractions in Istanbul and a great option for visitors who find the steep, cobblestoned historic districts difficult to navigate.
Getting There
- Bus: Several bus routes serve the Sutluce area. The 47, 47E, and 54HT lines stop near the park.
- Metro: The M7 line has a Sutluce station nearby. From there, it is a short roll to the park entrance.
- Taxi: A taxi from Sultanahmet takes about 15 minutes (longer in traffic). Ask for "Miniaturk, Sutluce."
- By water: The Golden Horn ferry stops at Sutluce/Haskoky. From the ferry stop, it is a flat walk along the waterfront to the park.
The park is located away from the main tourist areas. A taxi or private car is the most convenient option for wheelchair users, as it drops you close to the main entrance.
Wheelchair Accessibility
- The entire park is flat with smooth, wide paved pathways. Power and manual wheelchairs can navigate easily throughout.
- Wheelchairs are available for rental at the entrance. Call ahead to confirm availability, as supply is limited.
- All model displays are at a low height, designed to be viewed comfortably from a seated position.
- The park also includes a miniature railway, waterway, and ferry system with interactive displays.
- The indoor exhibits and gift shop are at ground level with step-free access.
- The park cafe has accessible seating areas.
Accessible Toilets
Accessible restrooms are available on site. These are clearly marked and located near the main facilities area.
Tips for Visitors with Disabilities
- Allow about 2 hours to see all the models at a comfortable pace.
- The park is mostly outdoors with limited shade. Bring sun protection and water in summer, and warm clothing in winter.
- Audio guides are available and provide commentary on each model.
- The park is much less crowded than Istanbul's historic center, making it a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
- The Golden Horn waterfront promenade near the park is also flat and pleasant for a roll.
- Visit in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat in summer months.
- All-day tickets are valid for re-entry, so you can take breaks as needed.
