Fully Accessible

Overview

Tokyo Skytree is the world's tallest freestanding tower at 634 meters, opened in 2012. It has two observation decks: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. Both decks are fully accessible by elevator. The tower was built with universal design principles and is one of the most wheelchair-friendly attractions in Tokyo. A large shopping and dining complex (Tokyo Solamachi) occupies the base of the tower with over 300 shops and restaurants.

Getting There

  • Metro: Oshiage Station (Hanzomon Line and Toei Asakusa Line) connects directly to Tokyo Solamachi and the Skytree entrance via underground passages with elevators. Follow the barrier-free signs from the station.
  • Tobu Line: Tokyo Skytree Station (Tobu Skytree Line) is directly adjacent, with step-free access to the tower complex.
  • Bus: Toei Bus and Sumida community bus routes stop near the tower.
  • Approach: The entire route from Oshiage Station to the tower entrance is step-free, indoors, and climate-controlled through the Solamachi mall.

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • Elevators connect the 4th floor entrance to the Tembo Deck (350m) in approximately 50 seconds. These elevators are spacious and have Braille buttons and audio announcements.
  • A second set of elevators connects the Tembo Deck to the Tembo Galleria (450m).
  • A wheelchair/stroller-priority elevator operates within the Tembo Deck itself for moving between the different levels (340m, 345m, 350m).
  • All corridors and observation areas on both decks are wide and step-free.
  • The glass floor panels on the Tembo Deck are flush with the surrounding floor and safely accessible by wheelchair.
  • Staff guide wheelchair users through the queue and provide priority access to elevators. Contact a staff member at the ticket counter for assistance.
  • Wheelchair users can skip the ticket queue by speaking to a staff member upon arrival.

Wheelchair loan is available at the 4th floor ticket counter, but the number of wheelchairs is limited. Arrive early or bring your own wheelchair to guarantee availability.

Accessible Toilets

Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available in every restroom throughout the facility, including on both observation deck levels. All accessible toilets have grab bars, emergency call buttons, and sufficient turning space for wheelchairs.

Tips for Visitors with Disabilities

  • A disability discount is available at the ticket counter with a valid disability certificate. Foreign disability ID cards are accepted. The discount applies to the certificate holder and one companion.
  • Weekday mornings (10:00 to 11:00) have the shortest queues and smallest crowds on the observation decks.
  • The Tembo Galleria (450m) is a spiraling ramp corridor with glass walls. The slope is gentle and fully accessible, providing 360-degree views as you ascend.
  • Tokyo Solamachi mall at the base has numerous accessible restaurants and shops. The food court on the 6th and 7th floors has step-free access.
  • On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji from the Tembo Deck. Mornings typically offer the best visibility.
  • The tower can sway slightly in strong winds. This is normal and safe but may be unsettling for some visitors.
