Tips for Visiting Attractions with a Disability

  • Many Vienna museums offer free entry for wheelchair users. Most federal museums (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Belvedere, Albertina, Natural History Museum, etc.) provide free admission for visitors with disabilities and their companion. Bring your disability ID or European Disability Card.
  • Download the Wiener Linien app. Check real-time elevator status at U-Bahn stations before heading to an attraction. The app also plans wheelchair-accessible routes.
  • Vienna's city center is remarkably flat. Unlike many European capitals, the Innere Stadt (1st District) has smooth, flat sidewalks with dropped curbs at nearly every intersection. The main challenge is cobblestones in some older areas.
  • Book ahead for palace tours. Schoenbrunn and Hofburg tours can be busy. Wheelchair users often get priority, but booking in advance ensures your preferred time slot.
