Overview
Taxis in Vienna are regulated and operated by licensed drivers. Standard Vienna taxis are typically sedans, but wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) with rear ramps or hydraulic lifts are available through specialized providers. Unlike some cities, WAVs in Vienna are not part of the general taxi fleet. You must book them separately through dedicated accessible transport companies.
Wheelchair-Accessible Transport Companies
Several companies in Vienna operate fleets of adapted minibuses designed for wheelchair users. These vehicles have rear ramps or side lifts and can transport you without needing to transfer out of your wheelchair.

Book Ahead for Accessible Transport
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are limited in number. For airport transfers, train station pickups, or scheduled events, book at least 24 hours in advance. Same-day requests may not be available or may require a long wait.
Freizeitfahrtendienst (Leisure Transport Services)
Vienna has a tradition of organized leisure transport services (Fahrtendienste) specifically for people with disabilities. These are not standard taxis but specialized minibus services that can take you on outings, excursions, and day trips in and around Vienna.
Blaguss, OHTB, WAKA, and Wiener Lokalbahnen Verkehrsdienste all offer these leisure transport options. You can book individual trips (such as a ride to Schoenbrunn Palace) or group excursions (half-day or full-day tours in the Vienna Woods or Wachau Valley). All journeys use barrier-free minibuses where you stay in your wheelchair.
Contact the companies directly to get quotes and arrange bookings.
Standard Taxis
Standard Vienna taxis (sedans) work for wheelchair users who are able to transfer to a car seat. The driver should help load and stow a folded manual wheelchair in the trunk. Most taxis have enough trunk space for a standard manual wheelchair, but power wheelchairs and large scooters will not fit in a standard taxi.
You can hail a taxi on the street, find one at a taxi stand, or book by phone. Major taxi dispatch numbers:
- Taxi 40100: +43 1 40 100
- Taxi 31300: +43 1 31 300
- Taxi 60160: +43 1 60 160

Ride-Hailing Services
Uber operates in Vienna. Standard Uber rides are available, but wheelchair-accessible vehicle options are very limited. If you can transfer to a car seat and your wheelchair folds, Uber is a convenient option. However, for guaranteed wheelchair-accessible transport, use the specialized companies listed above.
Bolt is also available in Vienna with similar limitations for wheelchair users.
Neither Uber nor Bolt reliably offers WAVs in Vienna. Standard rides through these apps use licensed drivers and follow regulated pricing.
Tipping
Tipping taxi drivers in Vienna is customary but not required. A tip of 5 to 10 percent is standard. You can round up to the nearest euro or add a few euros for good service. If the driver helped with your wheelchair or luggage, a slightly larger tip is appreciated.
Airport Transfer Tip
For wheelchair-accessible airport transfers, Blaguss Minibus-Service and Airport Driver are the most established providers. Book at least 24 to 48 hours in advance, especially during peak travel season (May to October). Provide your flight number so they can track your arrival time.
